I just wanted to clear up any confusion on the policy that the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office maintains for the installation of Carbon Monoxide Detection on an existing Fire Alarm System. When Carbon Monoxide Detection is added and or installed on a an existing Fire Alarm System the following is permitted without a required design drawing / plan submission to NCFM:

I just wanted to clear up any confusion on the policy that the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office maintains for the installation of Carbon Monoxide Detection on an existing Fire Alarm System. When Carbon Monoxide Detection is added and or installed on a an existing Fire Alarm System the following is permitted without a required design drawing / plan submission to NCFM:
- Carbon Monoxide Detection Device shall be listed for use with the existing Fire Alarm System / Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP)
- If a combination Carbon Monoxide Detection / Smoke Detection Device is utilized it shall be listed for use with the existing Fire Alarm System / Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP) and act independently and send an independent signal to the FACP.
- An affidavit shall be sent to the NCFM stating that the Carbon Monoxide Detection Devices were installed, tested and signal was verified by the required supervising station as per manufacturers specifications and NFPA 720 – the Standard for Installation of Carbon Monoxide Detection 2015 Edition.
